Greetings, Third Minders! We hope your summer is getting off to a beautiful start, and Happy Pride Month! We are celebrating a lot this June: the 3rd year Juneteenth (June 19th) will be recognized as a federal holiday, Father’s Day on the 18th, the official first day of summer, AND the One-Year Anniversary of Third Mind Books! We opened on June 4th, 2022, and our first year on Washington Street brought many opportunities for community building and self-expression. Thank you for your attendance and participation in our events last month and all year, and we hope to see you in the store soon!

The talent we have been seeing on display at our open mic nights just keeps getting more and more impressive, and our 12th installment on May 13th was no different. Our regulars are developing their performance content and styles, and new performers take the leap every month to join the fun. With poetry, stories, music and more, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, and we encourage everyone to express themselves freely. If you have the itch to perform, we hope to see you on June 10th for our Anniversary Show.

Our 4th Movie Night of the year (and ever) featured the 1945 classic directed by Billy Wilder The Lost Weekend, and the store owner, Arthur, discussed the 1944 novel by Charles Jackson on which the film is based and shared his first edition of the book. We hope you enjoyed the experience! Next month will feature The Night of the Hunter directed by Charles Laughton. We hope to see you there!

Happy Birthday, Allen Ginsberg!

Our Feature-&-Sale for the month of June is in celebration of another Beat Icon: ALLEN GINSBERG
Born on June 3rd, 1926, the legendary poet and scholar spent some time in our lovely city of Ann Arbor, so we have many locally-themed relics and signed items. Dozens of items are discounted up to 25%.

We are also offering special discounts on queer authors and artists in honor of PRIDE

Around Ann Arbor…

The Annual Summer Festival is beginning on June 9th and goes through the 25th. Top of the Park happens almost every day during the festival at the Ingalls Mall near the Bell Tower on the U of M campus. Check out the live performances, film screenings, activities for kids, and great food and thank the talented people that come together to create this wonderful event by donating to their cause to support art and creativity.

Our sister-city Ypsilanti is hosting a Pride Festival TOMORROW JUNE 2ND in Depot Town featuring live performances and vendors of all sorts. Ann Arbor’s Pride Festival is not until August 5th due to the Summer Festival and the Art Fair in July. All the more opportunities to be loud and PROUD!
